Bhimashankar Temple is nestling high in the Western Ghats (Sahyadri Hills) in Pune district, Maharashtra. Surrounded by lush rainforests, it is one of the revered 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva and serves as the sacred origin point of the Bhima River.

Ancient Nagara Architecture & Royal Patronage: Built in classical Nagara architectural style, the stone temple dates back to the 13th century. The complex was expanded in the 18th century by Maratha statesmen Nana Phadnavis and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who constructed the grand Sabhamandap. The temple complex also features a giant Roman-style bell presented by Maratha Commander Chimaji Appa after capturing Vasai Fort in 1739.
